Summary: Due to the inherent nature of oppression and power, many people, including seasoned organizational development (OD) practitioners, are ill-equipped to address issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and related issues of power in meaningful and sustainable ways. In pursuit of our goals to be and train transformational leaders capable of addressing our greatest challenges as a society (e.g. ‘the Great Resignation,’ political tension, national mental health crisis, various-isms, etc.), OD practitioners must continue to build a ‘toolbox’ of resources to help us in our personal and professional roles as change agents.

This presentation will introduce participants to the Cycle of Liberation, a framework that helps OD practitioners…

  1. Conceptualize oppression (i.e., racism, sexism, xenophobia, etc.) in various contexts and
  2. Identify action steps OD practitioners can take in intrapersonal, interpersonal, and systemic contexts as developing change agents.

Learning objectives

In this session participants will…

  • Learn The Cycle of Liberation – A tool to help conceptualize and organize positive action in personal and professional roles as (EDI) change agents
  • Explore practical ‘next steps’ as a change agent at the individual, interpersonal, and institutional levels
  • Co-create dialogue with fellow practitioners to explore and apply the Cycle of Liberation within their organization.
