PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Catching Up with the Gig Workforce

Presenter:

James Lehman, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CPA, CPC

The results of recent Ernst & Young LLP surveys about the "Gig Economy" find employers and workers both moving toward a temporary, independent workforce. Among large organizations surveyed, 49% said they increased their use of gig workers in the last five years. Looking ahead, 40% of organizations expect to increase their use of contingent workers in the next five years. One quarter expect 30% or more of their workforce to be contingent workers by 2020.

In this interactive program, we will take a deep dive into this emerging workforce, and how OD practitioners can guide holistic and humanistic organizational change with the current benefits and challenges of the gig economy and workforce in mind. For example, how can OD practitioners help organizations adapt performance management practices to short-term workers?  What are differences in hiring, onboarding, communicating with and giving constructive feedback to gig workers?   We’ll explore these and other issues to drive best practices.
