Program Description

How do OD practitioners lead the development of a comprehensive talent strategy that adapts to a constantly changing business environment?

Come learn how Graybar has developed a strategy for a attracting, developing and retaining talent in an industry that is changing faster than ever, bringing new opportunities and new challenges to this well-established organization. Ellen Levine, Director of Training and OD, and Carrie Johnson, Director of Corporate and Marketing Communications will share how Graybar strives to bring out the best in its people.  The session will also discuss challenges facing the company and how it is working to preserve the unique qualities of its employee ownership culture while improving company performance and driving competitiveness in the marketplace.

Since Graybar’s original founding in 1869, the company has led the way by bringing innovative technology and services to the marketplace.  From its earliest days as a manufacturer of communications equipment, to its role in supporting the expansion of electricity across the United States, Graybar has continually adapted its business to meet the changing needs of its customers.

This session presents a case study of Graybar - past, present and future - and how the organization is continually looking for new ways to achieve success.  It also highlights one of the most unique aspects of Graybar:  its employee ownership structure.  This ownership model was implemented in 1929 and it continues to have a strong impact on the company and its culture.
