SPECIAL BENEFIT FOR MEMBERS- BRING A GUEST AT MEMBER RATE

One of the benefits of being a member of the STL-ODN is the opportunity to invite one non-member guest to a designated program at the member rate.  Our August program has been designated for this special member benefit and it is a great opportunity to share the experience of the STL-ODN with a colleague or business partner.   Members, please ask your non-member guest to register in advance so that we can have an accurate count for refreshments and space. When registering at our website, guests should select the "Member Guest" option.  They will be asked for their name as well as the name of the member that invited them.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Do employees in your organization have the opportunity to do what they do best every day? StrengthsFinder, developed by Dr. Donald O. Clifton in 1998, identifies “naturally reoccurring thought, feeling and behavior patterns” in individuals and helps them utilize their most dominant talents.  For our August 2013 program, Dr. Jennifer Fickeler will lead a discussion of the StrengthsFinder assessment tool and how it can be used to improve retention and overall success of an organization.

Jennifer will share how she has successfully used StrengthsFinder with her clients to increase employee engagement and retention and strengthen overall business performance.  She will explain how focusing on building strengths instead of remedying weaknesses can help employees find their niche in the organization, better positioning them to drive achievement of organizational goals as well as their own personal goals.  Jennifer will reference her experience with an existing client in the luxury automotive industry to provide real-world context to these ideas.

Participants will connect in small groups to discuss their organization's strategies for retaining talent and whether a strengths-based approach would be appropriate.  Participants will also use a sample StrengthsFinder profile to discuss how they might go about coaching that employee to maximize their strengths.

To prepare for this program, consider the following questions:

  • How does identifying and nurturing an employee’s natural abilities help increase engagement and retention?
  • Does your organization consider employees' abilities before positioning them into specific roles in the company?
  • How does your organization currently discover employees' unique strengths?
  • How can your organization improve current performance management processes to promote team and individual strengths?
