PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

In recent years, senior executive transitions have received increasing attention from the business press, academic researchers and professional organizations.  Organizations are learning that failed senior executive transitions can cost several hundred thousand to tens of millions of dollars.

Research* indicates that:

  • Leaders new to a role or new to an organization are often evaluated as either successes or failures within their first 90 days by their peers, boss and even their direct reports
  • The breakeven point for new executives is 6.2 months
  • Between 45–66% all transitioning leaders fail in their new role, with leaders new to their organizations failing at higher rates than internal promotions
  • 40-50% of executive external hires fail to achieve desired results

For our March 14th program, Allen Karlin, Ph.D. and Leadership Development Manager at BJC Health Care, will lead a discussion of BJC's newly launched Executive Assimilation Process.  This one-year process is designed to shorten the learning curve for both the executives and the organization, thus reducing the time to breakeven, minimizing potential failure points and enhancing organizational productivity and alignment.

This will be a highly interactive session.  As BJC’s program is a work in progress, Allen will share their process and tools while asking participants to:

  • Assess their own organization’s level of risk during executive assimilation and transitions;
  • Help develop more successful conversations to support assimilation and transitions in their own organization; and
  • Brainstorm appropriate metrics/instruments to evaluate assimilation success
