Understanding the Power of Competency Modeling

Competencies are characteristics that differentiate highly effective performers from others.  Effective Competency Models capture the essential knowledge, skills, abilities and values needed for superior performance and successful organizations.

Our September program, “Understanding the Power of Competency Modeling,” will be presented by David Smith, CEO of EASI●Consult®.  David will review a common misconception that all competencies are similar in nature. He will explain the distinction between job-specific knowledge or skills seen as linked to the content of the job (Technical/ Functional Competencies) and robust personal characteristics that tend to transfer across jobs and are enduring (Behavioral Competencies). He will talk about why the distinction between the two has important implications for HR initiatives such as:  recruitment, selection, training, appraisal, development, and succession.

Additionally, David will review the “Four Factor Success Model” for considering behavioral competency development:  Cognitive, Interpersonal, Emotional, and Motivational factors and share a process EASI●Consult® uses with clients to collect information for competency building to:  interview job incumbents using Behavioral Event Interviewing (BEI), review the interview feedback, and develop the model.

The program is designed for the participants to be able to list “burning questions” at the beginning of the program and for David to answer these and any other questions throughout the program delivery.
